On Fri 26 Jun, we welcomed the District Officer, Lieutenant Commander Janner‑Burgess, and members of the District and Troop teams for the annual Unit Review Visit. The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate the Unit's progress over the past year, highlight the strength of training across all sections, and discuss priorities for continued development. The visit also included a series of awards recognising Cadet achievement and progression:

• Advancement to Lance Corporal: Royal Marine Cadets Day and House
• Junior Cadet Green Badge: Able Junior Cadet Burton; Junior Cadets First Class Akpan‑Etuk I, Akpan‑Etuk J and Malin
• Junior Cadet Yellow Badge: Junior Cadets First Class Akpan‑Etuk I, Akpan‑Etuk J and Crighton; Junior Cadets Aldous and Gallager Hirst
• Row 2 Qualification: Junior Cadets First Class Crighton and Malin
• Advancement to Junior Cadet First Class: Junior Cadet Aldous
• Advancement to Able Junior Cadet: Junior Cadets First Class Akpan‑Etuk I, Akpan‑Etuk J, Crighton and Malin

These awards reflect the hard work and enthusiasm shown by Cadets across the Unit, supported by the dedication of our Adult Volunteers. Congratulations to all of the Cadets recognised during the visit.

This evening was also poigniant as it marked one of Lieutenant Commander Janner‑Burgess' last visits to the Unit as District Officer as he is due to handover to his successor later this year. Thank you to Lieutenant Commander Janner-Burgess for all of the support shown to the Unit over our time in South East District.

Cadets and Adult Volunteers from the Unit were out in force on Sat 20 Jun, supporting a recruiting and profile‑building stall at Armed Forces Day on Parker’s Piece. Despite the hot weather, everyone showed real commitment throughout the day and engaged positively with members of the public.

The team represented the Unit extremely well, maintaining smart turnout and demonstrating the enthusiasm, professionalism and community spirit that characterise the Sea Cadets. Their efforts helped raise awareness of the opportunities available to young people and volunteers within the organisation.

We are very proud that two members of the Unit were formally recognised by the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire for their exceptional service and commitment.

Corporal Champion – Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet
Corporal Champion has been appointed as a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, one of the highest honours available to a Sea Cadet. This appointment reflects her outstanding leadership, dedication and conduct. Over the coming year, she will support the Lord Lieutenant at official royal and civic engagements, representing both Cambridgeshire and the Sea Cadets.

Commodore Gale Bryan – Certificate for Meritorious Service
We are also delighted to share that our Unit Chairman, Commodore Gale Bryan, has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service. This recognition highlights his long‑standing commitment, guidance and support to the Unit, much of which takes place quietly behind the scenes.

These honours reflect the hard work, professionalism and dedication shown by both recipients. Congratulations to both Corporal Champion and Commodore Bryan on their well‑deserved achievements.

Cadets from the Unit have been enjoying a great start to the 2026 boating season at Coldhams Lane Army Reserve Centre, making full use of the excellent facilities there to develop their rowing skills.

These activities give Cadets the chance to build confidence on the water, practice teamwork and refine the techniques that underpin safe and effective rowing. Under the guidance of our qualified instructors, everyone has worked hard and made clear progress over the last couple of months.

On Sat 25 Apr, Cadets and Adult Volunteers from the Unit attended the ANZAC Remembrance Service at Cambridge City Cemetery. The event brought together representatives from across the community to honour Australian and New Zealand service personnel who lost their lives in conflict.

Our Cadets and Adult Volunteers turned out smartly and conducted themselves with professionalism throughout. Their presence reflected the respect and commitment expected of the Corps, and they represented the Unit extremely well at this important occasion.
