The Blaydon Race 2026

9 June 2026

On the 9th June 2026, Staff and Cadets from Newburn Sea Cadets volunteered at the finish line for the Blaydon Races!

The Volunteers from Newburn SCC helped with getting bags sorted into the correct collection Pens, and handing out Water bottles at the finish line to some rather tired Race!

Many compliments were given by the racers as to how smart the cadets were, and there were many out of breath thank you's given.

Bravo Zulu Team Newburn for your outstanding help in your local community!

Newburn Sea Cadets score high Praise at RNP

5 June 2026

On 5 Jun 26, the unit held our Royal Naval Parade (RNP). This event happens every 2 years and gives us the opportunity to showcase our dress and bearing, our experiences and learnings, and to display the best that our Unit has to offer to our guests. Parents were invited as well as members of our Unit Management Committee but it is also our opportunity to be assessed by our Area Officer, Commander Gary Farmer, who inspects the ships company and assesses everything from Uniform Standards to our delivery of the full Cadet Experience. The responses were extremely favourable with Commander Farmer reporting…

"It's always a pleasure to come to Newburn. The Cadets and Adult Volunteers are always extremely well turned out, displaying some of the highest standards in the area."

…and parents advising of the benefits they see from their cadet’s attendance. The Area Officer complimented the ships company on the efforts and attendance, recognised our staff and management teams, and had a great time meeting our cadets and getting to know so many of the new faces amongst the ranks. The cadets did themselves and the unit extremely proud.

Flying, in Sea Cadets?

30 May 2026

SEA CADETS GO FLYING!

Flight Training, Human Factors and Electronic Warfare, three areas that cadets from Newburn gained experience of during a training day at 642 Aerospace Ground School at RAF Leeming. The cadets were taught the principles of flight, instructed on flight controls and all consolidated in various aircraft from a small Cessna, to the latest F22 and F35 Fighter jets… all on simulators but the full multi-tasking approach was needed.

In addition, the cadets received and extremely valuable life-lesson in Human Factors from Flt Lt Rawlins before also being briefed in the breadth of abilities of the UK’s Electronic Warfare capability by the OC, Sqn Ldr Johnston, which culminated in an offer for us to visit the jets and the teams responsible for delivering this crucial part of UK defence capability. Above all, it was an excellent day, great sunshine, loads of new friends and we all had a highly enjoyable day.

Thank you to our new friends over at RAF Leeming, and we hope to see you again soon!
