Cadets and Juniors from the unit were invited by Ross on Wye Town Council to attend the lighting of the Beacon in the Prospect to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday.
The Ships company marched into place and formed a guard of honour for the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and Mayor of Ross, Councillor Colin Gray.
After short speeches from the Mayor and Deputy Lord Lieutenant the Beacon was lit. The cadets and crowd then saw the light from another beacon.
Cadets and Juniors from the Unit were lucky enough to be asked to support the recent Freedom Parade in Monmouth. HMS MONMOUTH exercised her right of Freedom of the Town allowing them to parade with Swords drawn and Bayonets fixed.
The parade, consisting of the Royal Marine Band, Guard and Colour Party together with several divisions of the Ships company marched through the town past the Shirehall and finished at the Castle where they were inspected by the various VIP's including the local MP, David Daves.
Two staff and four cadets were invited to attend the Rededication service of HMS Monmouth at Devonport Naval Base, Plymouth.
Due to the early start accommodation was found in the Junior Rates Mess of HMS Drake. The cadets arrived at 0830 and were met by Lieutenant Craig McBriety and were shown around before being briefed on their role for the day by the Ships Executive Officer. The cadets were detailed to be the Piping party and were to Pipe aboard all the VIP's.
Once everyone had arrived everyone was able to take their seats to watch the service. Following a short ceremonial service and cake cutting everyone was able to enjoy the refreshments provided. The cadets were also able to secure a short tour of the Ship.

This framed ensign was presented to the unit by Mr Gerry Lewis and Mrs Margaret Jones.
The ensign was flown on a craft which went ashore on Sword Beach on D-day (6th June 1944). Marine Derek Poole then aged 20 was aboard this craft. After he left the Royal Navy he came to live with his wife in Ross on Wye and upon his death in October 2010 the ensign was discovered in the loft.
