Armed Forces Day 2015

On Saturday our Ships Company was on Parade with The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Talib Hussain, and Sheffield Armed Forces and Veterans to celebrate Armed Forces and Veterans Day with a series of activities.
As part of the national events, Sheffield Peace Gardens was set up for a mass parade of public, veterans & cadet forces, TS Sheffield being the largest this year.
Ashby Big Band played after with our own Band Corps performing on Fargate at our recruitment stall.

Morrisons Bag-Pack

The Unit Weekend ended on Sunday after a very successful fundraiser. Cadets & Staff were at Morrisons bag-packing and recruiting, and after count up £956.93 was raised. Thanks to all who could give any time to help out, and to those who were there as part of the whole weekend, it was a fun one!

Pink Ribbon Walk

The Derbyshire countryside was coloured pink as some 775 walkers defied the weather to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.
TS Sheffield Cadets & Staff were on hand to act as marshallers and deliver food/water along the 5,10 and 20 mile routes.
As the rain continued it became important to cheer on the walkers with shouts of support and smiles.
Isabel (UK Walks) sent us this letter -

Thank you so much to your cadets for coming along to volunteer at the Bakewell Pink Ribbonwalk on Saturday– we really appreciate you all giving up your time to help us and the event just couldn’t happen without volunteers like you. Please pass on my thanks to the cadets, who were fantastic, and to PO Smith and Daine who came along to supervise.

The Bakewell Pink Ribbonwalk went fantastically, despite the rain(!), and we’ve already had some wonderful feedback. 775 people walked on the day and those that I spoke to really enjoyed the atmosphere of the day – something that is a real testament to all of our volunteers.

D-Day Remembrance Parade

Another busy weekend - and as ever the crew of the 'Shiny Sheff' stuck to all her commitments, starting on Saturday with Sheffield's D-Day Parade.
Having been approached by the Normandy Veterans, whom were worried there would be few to parade with them, Cadets & Staff of TS Sheffield turned out at the Cenotaph, forming the only Cadet Force on parade.
The Veterans were so happy to have us there, and to share Grahams letter -
"Many thanks for your support. The Veterans were very impressed with the Staff and Cadets & spoke about them in glorious terms. Thanks to your Commanding Officer PO Knapton who did an outstanging job as Parade Marshall".
So thank you to all involved, these are the kind of ways we can say thanks to those we all owe so much.

HMS Sheffield Remembrance

A very important date in our calendar last Sunday, as 33 years ago to the date - 10th May - the ship from which our Unit takes its name - HMS Sheffield (D80) sank after a missle attack, protecting the main fleet during the Falklands Conflict.
Our Sea, Royal Marine Cadets & Staff paraded and lined the way for members of the HMS Sheffield Association, Royal Naval Association, Submariners Association and many more Veterans for the Remembrance Parade of the 20 men killed.
TS Sheffield's Band Corps drum section played during the wreath laying ceremony outside Sheffield Cathedral, before all went in for the service and the 20 names read out to a strike of the Ship's Bell.
Thanks to all involved as the Lord Mayor, public & veterans were all complimenting your immaculate turn-out, you certainly did everyone and yourselves proud to honour those of the 'Shiny Sheff'!
