New flagship at sea for the first time!

New flagship at sea for the first time!

09/04/2015

Sea Cadets across the UK are one step closer to realising their dreams of a 21st century flagship as they celebrate the ship being out on the water for the very first time! The ship's crew have joined the team at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan to sail TS Royalist in a number of sea trials, to ensure she is ready to take cadets on offshore voyages in the coming sailing season. We are looking forward to the new TS Royalist coming into the UK in May ready for the naming and commissioning ceremony.

Parents and Supporters Association (P&SA)

We’d like to start a Unit P&SA to help with extra fundraising for the Cadets, and also to get more people involved in our unit. If you could give us a little bit of your time once in a while then together we could make a real difference…. Typically the sort of things that a P&SA would do for raising funds would be a quiz night, jumble sale, cake sale etc. I’m sure there are some great ideas out there but for it to work we need people to get involved, so don’t be shy come and talk to us. You are always welcome to drop in to the Unit on a parade night for a chat. Have a look at the flyer for more details.

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013/14

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2013/14

After being selected from 150 applicants and taking part in three weeks of intense training he was chosen to be a crew member and serve on the yacht Invest Africa – CV25, a 70 foot clipper with around 20 crew members. The primitive living conditions on the boat will be a challenge in itself as everyone is living on top of each other; there is no personal space, only tinned and dried food, water rations, constantly damp and no shower! And it isn’t just the living conditions that will be an issue. The crossing itself is equivalent to just over 9 Fastnet races in a row across the World’s toughest ocean. During the 5 week voyage I will expect to see 40+ knot winds, torrential rain and unimaginable waves of up to 90ft!
