After having visited HMS Calliope in November last year, we have been invited back to spend the Afternoon with Lt Napier and his crew from URNU onboard HMS Example, a P2000 River Class Ship.

We will venture out of the Tyne towards the piers and head out to sea for a fun filled afternoon, during which we will learn and discover what they do onboard. (if you see us give us a wave!)

After the Christmas break, TS Collingwood cadets have turned over a new leaf, and started to concetrate on what we can do differently.

We spoke with cadets from the unit to gage their opinion on what THEY would like to do differently or more of this year, and what we could also offer them as the team of adults within the Unit.

We spoke about offshore and overseas voyages, international exchange and community spirit, getting more people through the doors and commitment to their own development as cadets.

The cadets added that they would like more activities, boating and trips this year, catching the eye of our Newly Appointed UTO.

New Projects and exciting activities happening within the next 18 months were spoken about and decisions and efforts are being made to make sure that these plans go ahead with every helping hand that the adults involved can get.

Here's just a snippet of some of the exciting things our cadets are going to be looking forward to in the coming months!

• Inverness to Sunderland onboard TS Royalist, taking part in the Tall Ships Race Sunderland 2018.
• Weymouth 2018! A group of our cadets will be travelling down to sunny weymouth for a week of fun and activities in May.
• TS COLLINGWOOD RAFT BUILDING COMP 2018!
• MALTA 2019: 23 cadets start efforts to fundraise there way to Malta in August of 2019, so far over £1000 has been raised for this project.
• More activieis, more boating and more fun!

Here's to a great year, with TS Collingwood Sea Cadets, South Shields!

If dedication is something to admire in young people, then we should look to admire one Cadet from South Shields Unit.
Within our Junior Sea Cadet Syllabus we learn about our community and encourage our cadets to do something for theirs, little or large. Gardening projects during the summer, tidying war memorials or even just helping someone with their bags or opening a door, every little gesture counts.
At Temple Park, a market was held today (17/12/2017) for members of the public and companies to sell and buy. One stall was being run today by 11 year old, JCFC Rhys. On his stall he had an abundance of Teddy Bears and soft toys, being won by selling raffle tickets. By the end of the day Rhys had raised £60 towards a fundraising activity going on within the unit to raise money for an upcoming trip abroad that will enable him to gain more skills and participate in something different.
But that is not all that Rhys has endeavoured to do this Christmas. At Cheviot Court Care home in South Shield, some residents are less fortunate than others at this time of year. With no families or visitors to come and see them over the Christmas period, they may be forgotten about by most.
But, Junior Sea Cadet Rhys of South Shields, along with a little help from his mum, has been making it his mission for most of his life to make sure that those without family at Christmas feel thought of and remembered.
By giving presents and delivering them by hand on Christmas eve, Rhys has made those less fortunate feel joyful for such a small, yet kind gesture.
This year Rhys has set the bar to a whole new level; by using his spare time during the Christmas holidays to hand make 70 sweet mince pies for each and every resident at the home, delivering them to all three floors of the building on Christmas Eve.
With his OiC and Instructors at South Shields Sea Cadets on hand to taste test the pies, everyone is applauding Rhys and his kind gift this Christmas.
For Rhys, this is just a kind deed he continues to deliver every year, for others it’s an amazing gesture to those who aren’t as fortunate as some, and a brilliant way to represent what he is also learning with the Sea Cadets and spreading some Christmas Joy.

It's been a busy weekend at TS Collingwood Sea Cadets.

This was the last weekend to be held at South Shields Unit before Christmas.

We opened our doors to a District Multi Training Weekend, including: Piping, First Aid and Rifle Drill.

Well done to all the cadets including some of our own who took part in this weekend and gained some excellent qualifications!

And a big thank you to the AV's  who attended, tought, cooked and made the weekend what it was... and most importantly, made it happen!
