Over the past weekend, Friday 17th August 2018 - Sunday 20th August 2018, four volunteers from T.S. Sutton Coldfield (Sutton Coldfield Unit) took on the Three-Lake Challenge.
What started as an idea between friends quickly become a reality as a fundraiser for their unit. The four volunteers took upon the challenge which spanned from Wales to England to Scotland as they started in Lake Bala, kayaking 7 miles, before moving onto Windermere, kayaking 11 miles, and finally heading up to Loch Awe, kayaking 25 miles. Completing all three lakes in just over 15 hours, kayaking 43 miles and raising over £500 whilst doing so is a huge accomplishment for the volunteers and the unit alike.
On the final day, when kayaking Loch Awe, defeat stared them in the face as they took a break roughly 12 miles in. Discussions were had to whether or not they could finish the challenge. After reading through the Sutton Coldfield Sea Cadet Facebook Page, as well as the GoFundMe comments, they continued on determined to see the challenge through to the end. Such an achievement is one to be remembered by all involved.
They wouldn't have been able to complete this task without the support from staff and cadets across the whole of South West Area.
