TS Iron Duke Annual Awards Night 2025

TS Iron Duke Annual Awards Night 2025
A Night to Remember!

In June, we held our Annual Awards Evening for our cadets and staff in front of friends and family. It was an incredible turnout, with everyone dressed in their best and ready to celebrate the achievements of the past year.

Awards were proudly presented by our special VIP, Captain McQueen RN, who did a fantastic job throughout the evening. His closing message to all attendees was truly inspirational.

Officer in Charge, Sgt (SCC) Wheeler, shared her thoughts on the evening:

"Wow – what a night!

We would like to thank Captain McQueen RN for accepting our invitation to be our VIP for the evening. He did a brilliant job, and his message at the end of the awards was exceptional.

It was also great to have in attendance our District Officer, Lt Cdr Rust, as well as a representative from the Royal Naval Association – thank you both for joining us.

As my first awards night as OiC, I’d like to personally thank all the staff, cadets, and parents for helping make the evening such a success. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces. With so many awards and badges presented to both cadets and staff, it just goes to show how much hard work has been put in by everyone.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next year brings for our unit — and watching our cadets and team continue to grow.

Keep up the great work."

A huge well done to all our award recipients — your dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm continue to make TS Iron Duke proud. Here's to another successful year ahead! ⚓🎉

Paddlesport and Rowing Regatta weekend!

Back in June, we competed in the Paddlesport and Rowing Regatta weekend!

With several entries already qualified for the Area Competition, we only needed to compete in a few events — and we made them count!

🥇 Open Boys 2k Single
🥇 Open Boys 500m Single
🥇 Junior Boys 500m Single

Due to high winds, the Cross Stream event was called off early — watch this space for those results soon!

Sunday – Rowing Regatta
With one crew already Area-qualified, two more stepped up to the challenge:

🥇 Open Girls Rowing
🥈 Open Boys Rowing

An incredible weekend of commitment, teamwork, and top-notch results — 13 of our cadets are now through to the Area Competitions! 💪🏻🎉

Well done to everyone involved — cadets, staff, and supporters alike!

T.S. Iron Duke Celebrates 83 Years of Maritime Excellence and Community Service

Today marks a monumental milestone as T.S. Iron Duke proudly celebrates its 83rd birthday a testament to the enduring spirit, commitment, and camaraderie of the Maidenhead and Taplow Sea Cadets. Since its establishment, the unit has played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of young people, fostering discipline, leadership, and a love for the sea.

Over the decades, T.S. Iron Duke has built a proud legacy, hosting notable dignitaries including Prime Ministers, and earning its place in the wider maritime and cadet communities. A significant highlight came in 2003, when the unit achieved the prestigious Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Certification a reflection of the high standard of training provided to our cadets.

In more recent years, the unit has continued to grow and evolve, adapting to the changing needs of its community and cadets. The appointment of the first-ever Marine Officer in Charge marked a new era of leadership, bringing fresh energy and renewed focus. The reopening of the Royal Marine Detachment at Maidenhead further demonstrates our commitment to expanding opportunities and enhancing our cadet experience.

Speaking on this special occasion, Officer in Charge Sgt Wheeler said:

"I am proud of the last 83 years and what Maidenhead and Taplow Sea Cadets have achieved. From humble beginnings to where we stand today, we have built something truly special. I look forward to taking it from strength to strength in 2025 and beyond under my command."

As we honour this 83-year journey, we also look to the future one filled with promise, purpose, and passion. Whether on the water or in the classroom, the mission remains the same: to inspire the next generation through adventure, leadership, and service.

Happy 83rd Birthday, T.S. Iron Duke and here’s to many more!
